Explore areas of welding and smithing, from repairing or repurposing items to the fabrication of new items with an Ag Mechanics project. You'll identify welding equipment, learn about electrodes, learn basic arc welding skills, and demonstrate appropriate welding skills. Participants will start with foundational skills and build upon their knowledge as they progress.

Each 4-H project offers a variety of activities and learning opportunities to suit your interests and strengths. Whether you're just getting started or taking your knowledge to the next level, there are several activities to learn and do throughout your project experience! |
- Learn how to build, modify or repair steel-based projects
- Topics include safety, selection of equipment and materials and fabricating techniques with shielded metal arc welding
Beginner
- About 1-3 years of experience
- This level is designed for youth with little to no exposure in the project area so that they can gain an understanding of basic principles and methods in the given area
Intermediate
- About 4-6 years of experience
- This level is designed for youth some experience in the project area allowing them to expand on common principles and methods in the given area
Advanced
- About 7-9 years of experience
- This level is designed for youth with vast experience in the project area allowing them to master common principles and methods and expand on advanced techniques in the given area
Reasonably priced materials are available for every project in Kansas 4-H. You can order the materials for your project online or contact your local Extension Office.
