Q & A About "Charlotte's Web"
Q: Why do my tickets for Charlotte's Web purchased through
Hollywood Movie Money via
www.fourhcouncil.edu
have a $2 processing fee per ticket?
A: After significant negotiation with Hollywood Movie Money and the movie
production companies, Hollywood Movie Money agreed to donate to 4-H $1 of a $2
processing fee per ticket purchased for Charlotte's Web. State 4-H programs
will receive all donations from this fundraising opportunity. This format also
allows for additional donations to be made to 4-H on top of the Hollywood
Movie Money processing fee donation.
It's important that you ask everyone you know within and outside of 4- H to
purchase their tickets through
www.fourhcouncil.edu
because this fundraising program not only raises money for 4-H, it shows other
potential corporate partners how well the 4-H system can mobilize itself and
others in communities across America. The success of this opportunity will
impact future relationships with other potential corporate partners.
This fundraising program is a great opportunity to help raise awareness of
the 4-H Youth Development Program with members of your community who may not
have interaction with 4-H otherwise. Use this opportunity as a chance to
tell everyone about the great work that 4- H is doing where you live.
Q. How do I know if my local theater is participating? Currently, when I
type in my zip code it doesn't show theaters near me.
A: Log onto
www.hollywoodmoviemoney.com <http://www.hollywoodmoviemoney.com/>
and enter a zip code. ALL accepting theaters partnered with HMM show up in
this database and are not restricted by the Charlotte's Web effort. If the
theater shows up in this database, it will eventually show up (by Friday,
December 15) in the 4-H/Charlotte's Web ticket purchase program on HMM. At
this time, all of the theaters partnered with HMM and showing Charlotte's Web
have not uploaded their theater information to HMM. Theaters will be added to
the site daily as we move closer to the movie's opening day (Friday, December
15). If you do not see your local theater currently listed and yet it is
listed on the general HMM website database as stated above, check back closer
to the movie opening date to see if it has been added yet. The full compliment
of theaters showing Charlotte's Web who are partnered with Hollywood Movie
Money (HMM) will appear in the HMM/4-H/Charlotte's Web zip code system by the
movie's opening day, Friday, December 15.
Q: There is a theater close to me, but it is not listed on the ticketing
Website database. What do I do?
A: There are a few theaters that do not participate in HMM's movie tickets
sales process. Occasionally, HMM does not know the theater exists. Visit
www.hollywoodmoviemoney.com/contact
to give HMM the name and location of the theater. If possible, they will
contact the theater and attempt to negotiate a partnership that will add them
to the program. At the least, they will be able to give you the location of an
alternative theater.

Marketing Kansas 4-H In Conjunction with Charlotte's Web
The movie "Charlotte's Web" is coming to theatres nationwide December 15.
Charlotte s Web features the 4-H Emblem multiple times, and the themes
portrayed speak directly to the great work that 4-H does in developing youth
building friendships, commitment to goals and having fun! It stars Dakota
Fanning as Fern, and the voices of Julia Roberts and 4-H alumnus Reba
McEntire, as well as many other noteworthy actors.
Two new Kansas 4-H promotional items adapted from items developed by
University of Illinois Extension are available "Marketing for Charlotte's Web"
Use the promotional flier or promotional game sheet at local theatres or in
other ways. Both are in MS word files so that you can insert local contact
information. 4-H supporters may want to wear their 4-H t-shirts when they
attend to show their 4-H pride!
There are other downloadable promotional tools to help you on
www.fourhcouncil.edu.
4-H Supply also has a great holiday selection of 4-H gear; including the
t-shirt Dakota Fanning wears as Fern in the movie at

4-H CLOVER HOUSE
...Building a Neighborhood One House at a Time!
At the 2006 National 4-H Congress, delegates from Kansas helped to dedicate
"the house that 4-H built" with the culmination of a four year fund raising
project for Habitat for Humanity. Each year, Congress delegates were asked to
bring a dime for each year that 4-H has existed. Over 150 Kansas clubs,
councils and delegates have contributed to this national community service
project. These dimes were "dropped" into a large container so that the
delegates could see the contribution they were making and for the collective
good that they were a part of. Construction began in August of this year. The
Hyatt hotel employees were our "builder partners" who actually did the
construction work. The hotel has been host to the Congress for the past nine
years and they were excited about the opportunity to do something for their
Atlanta community and to partner with 4-H. The Hyatt also made a financial
contribution to the project.
Since the project began in 2002, National 4-H Congress delegates have
contributed $40,000 to build the house that was dedicated on Monday November
27, 2006 during the National 4-H Congress event. Additionally, each state was
asked to assist by providing a housewarming gift for the family. The Kansas
gift was a decorative frame which had real 4-leaf clovers pressed between
sheets of glass. Jessica Grinstead, Reno County, represented the Kansas
delegation at the dedication and presented our gift. During the conference,
the Hyatt employees were visible with their support by wearing the "I Helped
with the Build" ribbon. The house went to a very deserving family of three
generations, who are all sharing the house. The family includes Miss Ella, her
daughter and grandchildren. At the closing gala, Miss Ella addressed the
delegates with a very heartfelt thank you to 4-H for helping make her dream of
owning a house come true. She also invited any 4-H member to drop by her house
any time -- and try some of her great gumbo!!!

MIGS–Member in Good Standing MIGS was recently presented at the
December 4-H Up-dates. Questions have come up concerning MIGS. MIGS is an
effort to describe minimum expectation of the 4-H member, not to exclude
anyone from belonging to 4-H. MIGS does set standards which might limit
the 4-H members opportunity to participate in county/district and state
programs. The purpose of MIGS is to ensure that those members taking
advantage of the privileges of membership are at least at a minimum standard
of involvement.
The MIGS Task Force convened over a year ago to discuss membership and
specifically the meaning of "in good standing" or "bona fide" member. The team
members uncovered through their research the importance of club membership and
participation. To further their research a survey was conducted at KYLF,
Volunteer Leaders Forum and e-mailed to agents. The survey results revealed
4-H members and volunteers wanted youth to participate in meetings for the
learning value. Additionally, USDA confirmed the club setting is where high
content and high context merge for the greatest benefit for youth.
Currently, the Task Force members are piloting the "paper process".
Additional counties/district are being recruited for the pilot process to
beginning October 1, 2007. Interested counties/district may complete the
application for an opportunity to be part of the pilot process. Applications
are due, February 15, 2007 to Pam Van Horn. Applications may be located at

CHARACTER COUNTS!
A Person of Character. 4-H strives to build persons of character, not
simply for the future but for today. Our paid staff, our volunteers, our
junior leaders, our parents, our collaborators, our supporters and our members
are all on the path of self-improvement that reaps benefits in individual
lives, Kansas families and communities right now! It is up to each of us to
strive to be "persons of character." A "person of character:"
Is a good person, someone to look up to and admire.
Knows the difference between right and wrong and always tries to do what
is right.
Sets a good example for everyone.
Makes the world a better place.
Lives according to the "Six Pillars of Character"- Trustworthiness,
Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.
Character education has two very important dimensions. First, the social
dimension, where 4-H fosters attitudes, habits and conduct that makes
individuals constructive members of society. And secondly, the personal
dimension, where 4-H fosters attitudes habits and conduct that helps
individuals live personally meaningful and satisfying lives. Neither dimension
outweighs the other. BOTH DIMENSIONS MUST BE IN BALANCE! Nothing is more
important for our personal happiness and for the good of society than
acquiring the dispositions and habits which constitute good character.
"Inviting our students to take the pursuit of happiness seriously means
accompanying and challenging them along the road to virtue." John Adams.

VIP Annual Renewal
We want to remind folks that Kansas 4-H policy is that 4-H Volunteers
annually renew their volunteer commitment. They do this by filling out and
returning the 4-H VIP Annual Renewal Form. This form is available from
Distribution, it is 4H953, it is also available on the web for download from
the publications library,
http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/library/4h_y2/4H953.pdf
It is available on our State 4-H Web site in the VIP Resources section as
well. The form asks volunteers to confirm their contact information, the
role(s) they will be volunteering for this year, update their legal
involvement information and recommit to the Volunteer Code of Ethics. There
are many advantages to the 4-H program in having Volunteers renew annually.
The information gained from the Renewal process will help manage the 4-H
Program more effectively. If you have any questions, please contact you Area
4-H Specialist or search the VIP FAQ file in the VIP Resources section of

collected 80-pounds of canned goods for the center.
In past year’s they have usually sponsored a turkey
dinner for a family through the Flint Hills Breadbasket. This year however,
about 5 members helped deliver the Turkey baskets to individuals throughout
the Manhattan area. Those receiving the turkey baskets were very
appreciative.
Their current project for Christmas will be to adopt an
ornament from the Manhattan Emergency Shelter. This is the second year
Collegiate 4-H will adopt an ornament. This project helps those trying to get
back on their feet from hard times.

stands. Here is the information to order them:The end pieces can be ordered
from Landoll Corp. at a cost of $5.74 each and it takes four per display. The
part number to order is 141598 and can be ordered by contacting Susan Kosar at

Thanks go to Bob Harlan from the 4-H Photography Action Team who continues
to work to upgrade the display stands. If you have any questions, please
