Objectives: To assist participants in developing their skills in (1) plant and seed identification and (2) evaluating the quality of grain and seed samples.

Award: Educational trip for top team, award to top three individuals. Medallions to top two teams.
Event: Horticulture Judging Contest, August 26, 2006, Manhattan
Objectives: To assist participants in developing their skills in (1) identifying flowers and foliage, fruits and nuts, vegetables, and ornamentals; (2) evaluating the quality of horticulture crops; (3) learning horticulture terminology.

Award: Trip for top team to National Horticulture Judging Contest
Event: Land Judging Contest
Objectives: To assist participants in developing their skills to (1) evaluate the quality of land characteristics like topsoil, subsoil, slope and plant life and (2) recommend conservation practices to improve the land's adaptability for producing crops, raising livestock, or home building.
Donor: Kansas Farm Bureau
Award: Medals, ribbons and plaque to top team in each of the five Extension areas
Event: Wheat Variety Plot
Enrollment: Tell your county agent the summer before you need to drill wheat. You will be furnished with 10 pounds each of five different varieties of certified wheat, plus identification signs. County qualifying displays can be exhibited at the State Fair for special awards and premiums.

Award: Educational trip for first place winner, $100 premium for second place winner
